Introduction
So you think you want a hedgehog? Maybe you know someone with a hedgehog or you saw a picture or video online and you thought "awww I need one of those in my life." African pygmy hedgehogs have been gaining popularity as household pets in recent years and yes they are cute! When I first thought of getting a hedgehog, I was so excited that I spent all of my free time reading about them and researching for months before I even went looking for one. Hedgehogs can make wonderful pets and while they are a relatively low maintenance pet, they do have many nuanced requirements. As a word of caution, hedgehogs are also expensive pets, initial setup and vet care can cost quite a bit. If you cannot afford to provide them with their basic needs, or you want to save a buck by supplying subpar equipment, food, or care, you should probably stick to a pet that isn't considered "exotic". Many times by trying to save money now, you could be endangering the welfare of your pet and end up spending exponentially more in vet bills later. Hedgehogs also require some of your time every day to be social, if you don't think you can fit that into your schedule, a hedgehog probably isn't the right pet for you. So, if you haven't been scared off yet and are still thinking about getting a hedgehog, you've come to the right place. I have put together a detailed guide to help you learn all the ins and outs of hedgie ownership. You can use the menu at the top of the page to navigate through your Hedgeucation or you can use the buttons located at the bottom of each page to take you to the next topic. If you have a question that isn't answered within the guide, please feel free to Contact me.
